VMB-200 Mobile Broadband Video Appliance
There are many places where it is impractical or even impossible to have an internet connection: construction sites, unmanned parking lots, ranching and farming areas, drilling platforms. The VMB-200 was designed from the ground up to support the IP, megapixel, and multi-megapixel IP video surveillance market in those places. By utilizing open standard protocols as the foundation, it allows security professionals complete flexibility in camera selection and location. The VMB-200 will provide local surveillance video caching that is available for downloading and viewing over the internet, using a mobile broadband cellular service as a gateway.
Since the VMB-200 utilizes passive POE as a power source for the IP cameras, there is no need for an external power supply for the camera. Simply connect the VMB-200 to a standard 110 circuit, and then attach the cameras to the VMB-200 with standard Ethernet POE wiring. The VMB-200 is designed to recover gracefully from power outages, as well, and will message you via SMS when it starts, so you’ll know if it’s been turned off and back on.
The VMB-200 is built to work on a mobile broadband cellular network, often referred to as 3G and 4G. Since this can change from provider to provider (e.g., Sprint vs. AT&T), we purpose-built the Linux operating system to be flexible and work on all of them. It’s the customer’s choice. And since we have a purpose-built appliance, the video streams from the camera are all saved in MPEG-4 format, which is playable by practically any video player on the market today, and can easily be burned to a CD for archival purposes. In the future, we will add H.264 encoding to the options for video storage to reduce the amount of bandwidth required for downloading. That is dependent on the availability of encoders and suitability to the software players available.
Reliability and Performance
We realize that the places where the VMB-200 is required, it is very likely to be a harsh environment. The VMB-200 offers the highest level of stability and reliability. Each part of the VMB-200 was selected for it’s industrial-strength capabilities. The file storage medium is the most critical, of course, and that component is extremely durable.
